When you build a course in Area9 Rhapsode™, we assume that you want learners to become competent in everything in the course, otherwise, why include it?
For this reason, we set the required proficiency level to be 100% — meaning that the learner should demonstrate proficiency on every learning objective that has a probe associated with it.
We do have a setting (“Required to Pass”) in Rhapsode EDUCATOR™ that enables an administrator to set any target proficiency level (0-100%):
Adjusting the score has serious consequences for the learner, and therefore we suggest that this setting is only used in conjunction with the Excel priority.
In some instances, you might want to include advanced or nice-to-have content in a course. In this circumstance, you can use the Excel priority attribute, as described in this knowledge base article.
Giving a learning objective an Excel priority does three things:
1. If the learner selects a “Self-Assessment” slider value less than Expert – all Core/Pass learning objectives will be shown at least once before we would pick Excel learning objectives.
2. Setting the self-assessment slider to Expert means the adaptive algorithm will pick from all learning objectives including Excel from the beginning, and not wait until Core and Pass have been shown.
3. The Excel priority can play a role in the target proficiency level. Even if the course includes Excel learning objectives, the default target proficiency level is still 100%. If the Required to Pass setting is enabled as described above, the passing score will instead default to exclude Excel learning objectives. e.g., if you have 20% Core, 50% Pass and 30% Excel learning objectives, enabling Required to Pass would change the default target proficiency to be 70%. In this case, any Excel learning objectives would automatically be excluded from the class.
It is, therefore, possible to create two versions of a course, one basic and one advanced, simply by tagging certain learning objectives with Excel in Rhapsode CURATOR™ and changing the Required to Pass number on each course in Rhapsode EDUCATOR™.
